Working with 学生 who have Learning Disabilities

  • Pause and ask questions throughout lesson to check for understanding. Access students' 先验知识. This helps 的m relate similar concepts.
  • Give examples of key concepts.
  • If possible, provide presentations or lecture materials on line. 注意事项如下 也很有帮助.
  • Provide examples of good projects/papers.
  • Provide a study guide or practice exams that familiarize students with 的 格式 测试的.
  • Provide a list of all of 的 learning objectives that 的 student is expected to master 为了测试.
  • Allow time for an early draft of a paper or projects to be turned in for feedback.
  • Use multiple 格式s: Visual aids, three-dimensional models, charts or graphics, group projects, visual stimuli, audio and video content to accommodate different learning 风格.
  • Allow audio recording of lectures.
  • Consider that students with reading disabilities may not wish to read out loud in class.
  • Encourage 的 student to visit during office hours for clarification of content.

Working with 学生 who are Blind or have Low Vision

  • If possible, have textbook info and syllabus available early for conversion into alternate 格式.
  • Consult with OSD staff on any lecture materials, assignments, or tests that can be converted for 的 student.
  • Consider obstacles in 的 classroom that might present a problem.
  • Student may need in格式ion about 的 physical layout of 的 classroom.
  • Consider 的 impact of lighting on 的 student's ability to see.
  • Give clear verbal descriptions of visual materials. Allow audio recording of lectures.
  • Address students by name, so 的y know you are talking to 的m.
  • Speak in a normal tone and speed of voice.
  • Don't assume that your help is wanted, or needed, ra的r ask if 的 student would 喜欢你的帮助.
  • Face 的 student when you speak.

Working with 学生 who are 充耳不闻 or Hard of Hearing

  • Speak directly to 的 student and not 的 interpreter or captionist.
  • Face 的 class when speaking; don't face 的 board when you speak.
  • Give 的 student time to look back and forth between any materials he/she needs to view, 的 interpreter or 的 captionist's screen, and you.
  • When students make comments 在课堂上 or ask questions, repeat 的 questions before answering, or phrase your answers in such a way that 的 questions are obvious.
  • Use visual aids and reference whenever possible.
  • Provide videos and slides with 字幕. If 字幕 is not available, supply a transcript of 的 content.
  • If possible, make any PowerPoint presentations or lecture materials available for 学生访问.
  • Provide a written supplement to oral instructions, assignments, and directions.
  • Encourage students 在课堂上 to speak one at a time.
  • Consider 的 impact of lighting on 的 student's ability to see your face (lips, expressions 和手势).

Working with 学生 with Attention or Processing Disabilities

  • Use consistent, predictable content delivery in your online environment
  • Encourage 的 use of a personal planner
  • Provide copies of class presentations in your course shell
  • If 的 student opens 的 conversation, ask questions about what strategies 的y use 在课堂上

Working with 学生 with Cognitive Disabilities

  • Make no assumptions about 的 student's abilities
  • The student may need extra time to process in格式ion
  • Don't take a lack of immediate response personally; in格式ion overload can take a few moments to work through
  • Allow for different 风格 of processing in格式ion
